Microblading and Permanent Makeup are to also referred as cosmetic tattoos and feathering, however, they are not similar to traditional tattoos. These techniques include a process where pigment is implanted beneath the first layer of the skin, using either a manual microblade tool, or a permanent makeup machine. Microblading produces realistic hair strokes in the pattern of your own eyebrow hair growth, whereas other permanent makeup procedures, such as Ombré Powder, use a machine method to produce tiny pixels in the skin to resemble soft shading. Other permanent makeup techniques include: lip blush tattoo, eyeliner tattoo, freckles, etc.
Each procedure is different in terms of pain level, as different areas are being treated. However, at Precision Studio & Academy, we use medical grade anesthetic BEFORE and DURING the procedure in order to reduce the pain and ensure that your experience is as comfortable as possible.
Depending on the area being treated, the downtime varies, however you are still able to continue on with your day after your appointment as redness and swelling usually subsides within 2-3 hours after the procdure. Each individual is unique in terms of their healing as everyone's body reacts differently to permanent makeup procedures. On average, the standard time for most permanent makeup procedures is between 5-7 days. However, in certain cases, the skin of the area being treated may require up to 14 days to heal. During your initial session, your technician will thoroughly explain each stage of the healing process and give you precise answers after analyzing your skin.
This varies between each individual, depending on skin type, lifestyle, etc. In permanent makeup (ie. lip blush, permanent eyeliner) touch-ups are generally reccomended every 1-3 years to refresh the colour. Microblading requires touch-ups every 1-2 years, however, some clients may feel that they require a touch-up after 6 months. Depending on your skin type, your lifestyle activities (ie. tanning, exercising) can affect your retention. Wearing sunscrean on the treated area, and generally taking good care of your skin will help maintain retention.
Each procedure takes roughly 2-3 hours depending on the area being treated and the complexity of each case. For example, those with less natural hairs on their eyebrow area, or those with hyperpigmentation on the lips will generally require more time. Please allow a 3-3.5 hour window in order to ensure that nothing is rushed.
During the first 2-3 days after the procedure, the area being treated will look bold and more pronounced than usual. This is completely normal, as your body is attempting to reject the pigment and therefore it is being pushed to the surface of your skin. Over the next few days, your body will begin to heal the area, and therefore you will go through a "sunburn" phase. The area treated (ie. eyebrows/lips) will begin to scab and flake. Eventually, the flakes will all fall off and the colour will lighten by about 40-60%. Once again, this is NORMAL. Any pigment loss in the treated area will be completed once you return for the touch-up session. This is also when you can tweak the shape or colour.
Microblading is a very safe procedure when it is performed by the right technician. It will not damage the hair or the follicle. It is extremely important to choose your microblading artist wisely in order to avoid any damage to your skin, and most importantly any scarring.
